Škoda Driving Score

Driving Score defines the behaviour of a Škoda driver based on several safety metrics. These are designed to determine the likelihood that a given driver behaviour will lead to an accident. Driving Score is used to transparently inform the driver about their driving style.

How does it work?

1. Use your vehicle as normal

Drive all the usual and unusual routes. Anticipate the conditions around you and keep your distance from the vehicle in front. Brake steadily and try to avoid the “brake-gas” approach. Move smoothly in heavy traffic, plan your overtaking, and make sure you can see where you are going.

2. Check your MyŠkoda app

You’ll see your Driving Score and safety metrics natively in the app, including tips to improve your driving style and safety. Find out how we calculate your score below.

3. Monitor your score

Work with the tips shown to you in the app. Concentrate on driving smoothly and anticipate road conditions.

Check the availability of Driving Score

Click on the “Check availability” button.
Select your country and enter your vehicle’s VIN (found on the registration card or in the bottom corner of the windscreen).
Find MyŠkoda in the General Information section and the Driving Score service within it.
If you see the Driving Score tile here, it is probably available for your car. (However, some models and series may not have the score available despite being displayed in the service availability list)
After driving, check the MyŠkoda app to see if you can find the score here. This will determine the final availability of the score for your car.

Important information

Anonymous/Privacy mode
You can always turn on Private Mode to opt out of any data collection. The score will not be calculated afterwards.
Primary user
To view Driving Score in the app, you must be logged in as the Primary User of your vehicle. Find out how to do this here.
Driving and parking
Vehicles collect and send data to the application in a specific way like your smartphone. It is therefore advisable to think about the availability of the signal, especially when parking your car. When parking in garages and covered areas, it may happen that the data will not be sent, and your score will not be calculated. Please check the last day of your Driving Score calculation in the MyŠkoda application and if it is not up to date, try to park your car in a place where the signal will be available.

How do we calculate the Driving Score?

We calculate a master Driving Score that defines the safety of a driver’s behaviour. Not only does the severity of a violation of a given metric’s limit enter into the calculation but also the repetition of violations and the combination of violations. The calculation is performed after each trip and the App is updated once a day.

Driving Score is not designed to penalise drivers for speeding while overtaking, accelerating out of a risky situation at an intersection or braking in an emergency situation. Our calculation takes into account the overall pattern of the driver’s driving style.

Driving Score safety metrics

Hard breaking

When a vehicle slows abruptly, it can easily skid or cause a collision. This often indicates that the driver has not maintained a safe distance from other vehicles.

Dangerous acceleration

Aggressive acceleration can create unpredictable situations on the road and can lead to loss of vehicle control, reduced reaction time, and increased severity of a collision.

Speeding

Excessive speed significantly reduces the driver’s ability to react to unexpected situations and increases the severity of collisions. It is a major cause of traffic crashes.

Excessive driving length

Prolonged driving times can lead to driver fatigue and reduced driver alertness, increasing the risk of crashes. Long drives without adequate breaks can impair decision making and reaction time.

Driving time (night, rush hour, etc.)

Driving at night brings reduced visibility, increased headlight glare and possible drowsiness. These factors can impair the driver’s ability to react quickly and make safe decisions. We also account for rush hour traffic in our model because the overall number of crashes is higher during these parts of the day.

Fuel tank level/battery charge

A lower fuel tank level or battery charge potentially leads to a situation where fuel or power runs out completely. In this case, it is more likely that assistance services might need to be called.

Data safety

Your data is processed with the utmost attention to data minimisation. Your personalized data (VIN) is kept for the shortest possible time to calculate the score, which is then stored for at least a year, for the purpose of displaying the score history.

FAQs

Can occasional driving mistakes (e.g., speeding while passing slower vehicle) lower my score?

The Driving Score evaluates overall driving patterns rather than isolated events. It takes into account consistent driving behavior to provide a fair and balanced score.

How is the score calculated?

The score is calculated by a model that takes into account individual Driving Score safety metrics, over which an algorithm is built that awards penalty points for violating individual metric limits.

How often is the score updated?

The score is updated daily. However, it is necessary to expose the car to a mobile signal. If the car is often parked in places without a mobile signal (garages, etc.), the data may not be sent and included in the score.

Why can’t I see my Driving Score in the MyŠkoda app?

If the score is unavailable:

Ensure you are logged in as the Primary User of your Škoda vehicle.
Ensure your privacy/anonymous mode is off.
Check service availability (The service is available mainly in vehicle models from 2019 with specific equipment).

Can I opt out of data collection for the Driving Score?

Yes. You can opt out by activating Private Mode in your vehicle’s infotainment system. Once Private Mode is enabled and you have received a confirmation email at your registered email address (in MyŠkoda App), data collection and the calculation of your Driving Score will stop from that moment onward.

Please note: Any Driving Score already calculated based on previously collected data will remain visible in the MyŠkoda App, but no new data will be collected or processed while Private Mode is active.
