EV charging can be divided into three basic options: charging at home or at work, AC charging in a public place, and charging at a DC fast-charging station. Each option has its own advantages and is suited to particular situations.

An electric car can also be charged via a conventional or industrial socket using the iV Universal Charger cable.

All in all, home charging is convenient and comes at the lowest cost. It can also be used whenever the car is not in use – overnight, for example.

You can make use of alternating current (AC) charging at a public charging station whenever you are away from home. Some places have their own cable, others require you to use your own standard-fit Mode 3 cable.

Direct current (DC) charging at fast-charging stations is ideal for your charging needs on longer journeys because the charging power is higher. DC can charge your electric car battery in tens of minutes under optimal conditions.

Whether you charge your battery at home, at work, or on the road, a few guiding principles always apply to the normal use of an electric car. These include charging only up to 80% of the battery’s capacity, as avoiding frequent use of the full battery scale (full charge or full discharge) will extend its life.
